The 30th Oscar Hammerstein Award Gala
York Theatre Company
November 14, 2022
The York has chosen the 2022 recipient of the Oscar Hammerstein Award—a show business luminary whose tremendous talent and legendary career has spanned from Broadway to television to movies—and we can only exclaim, “Hallelujah, Baby!”
Yes, we are thrilled to announce that the 30th Oscar Hammerstein Award for Outstanding Achievement in Musical Theater will be presented to Leslie Uggams (Hallelujah, Baby!, 1968 Tony Award for Best Actress; Anything Goes; Jerry’s Girls; Stormy Weather; Thoroughly Modern Millie; and Gypsy). She was honored with Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominations for “Roots,” won an Emmy for hosting NBC’s “Fantasy,” and is well-known for her roles in “Empire” and the Deadpool movies, among many others.
The 10th York Founders’ Award will be presented to Ted Chapin, former president of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, an influential force in musical theater for more than 50 years, and a long-time friend and supporter of The York.
Join us at The Edison Rooftop on November 14 to celebrate these significant—and enormously popular—figures in the history of musical theater!
